Kerala Lottery Results – All About Kerala Lottery

There are only 13 states in India that have any clear guidelines for lottery operations. But while most other states are either still indecisive on their lottery decision or have their lottery operations in their nascent stages, Kerala has pioneered the lottery system. In fact, for years now, it has been an inspiration for other states to learn and implement their own lottery system and take advantage of it to benefit both the state and the public.

The lottery has been running successfully for more than five decades now, having been established in 1967 to provide employment to people and supplement government finance without disturbing the public. At the time, the Kerala government had banned all private lotteries and the then Finance Minister P. K. Kunju Saheb was looking for ways to improve conditions.

Nowadays, Kerala collects the GST received from the sale of lottery tickets and implements the profits towards supporting various welfare schemes throughout the state. For example, the proceeds from the Karunya lottery are used to financially support the citizens who can’t afford medical bills from Haemophilia, Cancer, and Kidney and Heart diseases.

When it was finalized and launched, the Kerala Lottery became the first state-run lottery in India. Though at the time it was operated under the Department of Finance, it was later reigned in under the Taxes Department. Today, 465 work in tandem with the Directorate at Vikas Bhavan at Thiruvananthapuram and the Regional Deputy Directorate at Ernakulam to make this fantastic operation possible.

Kerala Lottery Participation

The Kerala state lottery is open to anyone who buys a ticket from an authorized outlet. This means anybody living in the state of Kerala is automatically eligible to participate. But this also means that even tourists and people living close to the state’s border can get a chance to win one of the massive lotteries.

However, it’s important that buyers only get the ticket from authorized outlets as several fake ticket sellers are known to operate in trap unsuspecting buyers. These tickets may look like the real deal but have several indicators that can be used to tell them apart from legitimate ones. Here are the five things to look out for while buying a Kerala lottery ticket:

  • Lottery Number

First of all, check if your ticket has a lottery number. The lottery number is printed on the top right of the ticket and written in bold. The lottery number is made up of two alphabets and two digits joined by a dash. The alphabetical part indicates the name of the lottery that the ticket belongs to; for example, SS stands for Sthree Sakthi and BR means the ticket belongs to the Bumper Lottery series.

  • Secret Code

At the bottom left of a Kerala lottery ticket is its unique secret code and associated barcode. This number is used to verify the ticket while handing the prizes after the lottery has been drawn. Since the secret code’s intention is to prevent forgery, you should keep your lottery ticket’s secret code, just that, secret.

  • Ticket Number

Easily the most important number on your ticket, the ticket number is the one used to compare the winning numbers. It’s printed at the bottom right on your ticket and comes with an associated barcode. The barcode is also used to verify the ticket number, so it’s important the ticket holder doesn’t tamper with it in any manner.

The ticket number consists of a two-character alphabetical code followed by a six-digit numeric code, though five-number ticket numbers aren’t uncommon.

  • Agent’s Seal

The Kerala Lottery takes several measures to verify a ticket to prevent fraud. One of them is the agent’s seal on the back of every lottery ticket. The seal has the agent’s name and valid agency code on the back. Ticket buyers should double-check the agent’s seal while buying a ticket to ensure it is clearly visible.

  • Counter Foil Number

The final measure for verification used by the Kerala lottery department is the counterfoil number. Every ticket’s right edge has a counterfoil number that’s split in half. The other half of the counterfoil is stored safely in the district office.

This verification measure is only taken when a ticket wins one of the bigger prizes. The counter foil number also has a seal associated with it which is also torn in half. The number and the seal serve the same purpose.

Kerala State Lottery Options

The Kerala State Lottery Department conducts many lotteries throughout the year. Interested people can choose from one of the seven weekly lotteries or wait every other month to participate in one of the six bumper lotteries.

What makes Kerala lottery unique is that each lottery has different rules and prize structure. Though most of the weekly lotteries have the same prices for tickets and price ranges, the Karunya weekly lottery attracts the most number of players. Similarly, we see that some bumper lotteries are more popular than others. Whether this is because of prize differences or any other historical influence, you should know about all the lotteries and make an informed decision while buying a ticket.

Weekly Lotteries in Kerala

Win-Win Lottery

The Kerala lottery department starts every week with the Win-Win weekly lottery on Mondays. With a ticket price of ₹30, you could win a lottery of ₹65 lakh. All you have to do is match all six digits of the numeric code on the ticket. The lottery also has other prize tiers, ranging all the way from second place to seventh. The lottery department holds separate draws for other prizes and both second and third prize winners have to match the same six digits of the numeric code as the first place winner to win ₹10 lakh and ₹1 lakh respectively.

The other prize tiers, from fourth to seventh are as follows: ₹5000, ₹1000, ₹500, and ₹100. Winning the first and second prize can be extremely rare as only one winner is drawn for each. But the odds of winning other prizes are quite high, with 12 draws for third prize, another 12 draws for the fourth prize, 30 draws for the fifth prize, 60 draws for the sixth prize, and 108 draws for the seventh prize. Finally, those ticket holders who miss the first prize number by a single alphabet get a consolation prize of ₹8000. The alphabetical code for the Win-Win lottery is “W”.

Akshaya Weekly Lottery

The Akshaya lottery that’s held every Wednesday is quite similar to the Win-Win lottery. A ticket costs ₹30 and enrolls the player to a potential win of ₹60 lakh. The first prize is followed by a generous second prize of ₹5 lakh and a third prize of ₹1 lakh each to 12 lucky ticket holders. Other prize tiers in the Akshaya lottery include a fourth prize of ₹5000, fifth prize of ₹2000, sixth prize of ₹1000, seventh prize of ₹500, and the eighth prize of ₹100.

The fourth through eighth prize tiers have multiple draws for increased winning chances for ticket holders. They’re drawn 12, 6, 25, 48, and 112 times respectively. Finally, ticket holders who barely missed the big jackpot get a consolation prize of ₹8000 each. The Akshaya lottery’s ticket code is “AK”.

Nirmal Lottery

The Nirmal lottery is held every Friday and comes with prize tiers of ₹60 lakh, ₹5 lakh, ₹1 lakh, ₹5000, ₹1000, ₹500, and ₹100. The multiple draws as follows: first prize is drawn one time, second prize is drawn one time, third prize is drawn 12 times, fourth prize is drawn 12 times, fifth prize is drawn 31 times, sixth prize is drawn 60 times, and the seventh prize is drawn 108 times.

The Nirmal lottery’s ticket can be bought for ₹30 and comes with a consolation prize for those who miss the lottery because of a single alphabet in their ticket number. The consolation prize itself is drawn 11 times and hands ₹8000 each. The Nirmal lottery code is “NR”.

Pournami Weekly Lottery

Pournami is the weekly Kerala lottery that’s drawn every Sunday. This lottery gives players access to a mega prize of ₹70 lakh as the first prize. Next, the second prize off ₹5 lakh is drawn and given to one ticket holder while the third prize winner gets ₹2 lakh in total. While the first, second, and third prizes require players to match all of the numbers in the ticket number, the rest of the prizes only need the last four numbers to be similar.

These prizes in order appear as follows: fourth prize of ₹4000 13 times, fifth prize of ₹2000 5 times, sixth prize of ₹1000 26 times, seventh prize of ₹500 40 times, and eighth prize of ₹100 110 times. This lottery also awards a consolation prize of ₹8000 to 11 ticket holders. A single Pournami lottery ticket costs ₹30 while the whole book can make your pocket ₹750 lighter. Look out for the code “RN” while buying a Pournami lottery ticket.

Sthree Sakthi

The Sthree Sakthi lottery is drawn every Wednesday. Its prize structure varies from that of Win-Win’s and Pournami’s ever so slightly. For starters, it’s first prize is also the same ₹70 lakh. However, unlike other weekly lotteries, Sthree Sakhti’s second prize is comparatively much smaller at a mere ₹5 lakh.

Other prize tiers in the lottery include ₹5000 for 12 ticket holders, ₹2000 for seven ticket holders, ₹1000 for 21 ticket holders, ₹500 for 36 ticket holders, ₹200 for 45 ticket holders, and ₹100 for 102 ticket holders. A consolation prize of ₹8000 is given to the most unlucky ticket holders as well. A Sthree Sakthi ticket costs ₹30 and is marked by the code “SS”.

Karunya Plus

The Karunya Plus is another weekly Kerala lottery with a ₹70 lakh prize. It’s prize pool boasts of secondary tiers like a second prize of ₹5 lakh, third prize of ₹1 lakh, fourth prize of ₹5000, fifth prize of ₹2000, seventh prize of ₹500, and eighth prize of ₹100. These prizes are drawn 1, 12, 14, 25, 50, and 112 times respectively.

Similar to most weekly Kerala lotteries, Karunya Plus grants a small consolation prize of ₹8000 to players who missed the grand prize by a single alphabet. It also requires the first, second, and third prize winners to match all six digits while others have to match only four digits from their ticket numbers. You can buy a Karunya Plus ticket for ₹30 but make sure to look for the code “KN” on the ticket.

Karunya Lottery

Finally, Karunya is the biggest weekly lottery in Kerala. It offers a mega first prize of ₹1 crore, attracting a large number of ticket buyers from across the state. This lottery is drawn every Saturday and brings the Kerala weekly lottery to a close every week. A Karunya lottery ticket has “KR” code printed on it and comes at a slightly higher price of ₹50.

Karunya has a total of nine prize tiers including the consolation prize of ₹8000 given to nine frustrated souls. Other prizes in the Karunya lottery include a second prize of ₹10 lakh given to 1 ticket holder, third prize of ₹1 lakh given to 10 ticket holders,  fourth prize of ₹5000 given to 21 ticket holders, fifth prize of ₹2000 given to 10 ticket holders, sixth prize of ₹1000 given to 41 ticket holders, seventh prize of ₹500 given to 81 ticket holders, and eighth prize of ₹100 given to 120 ticket holders.

Bumper Lotteries in Kerala

While the aforementioned seven lotteries are, the Kerala lottery department gives ticket holders something to dream even bigger — six bumper lotteries. These yearly bumper lotteries start in January and are held every other month. They entail much bigger prizes than their weekly counterparts and attract much bigger crowds. Let’s take a look.

  • Summer Bumper

Every March, the Summer Bumper brings in a cool breeze of relief in the boiling temperatures for the residents of Kerala. It offers a bumper prize of ₹4 crore followed by a second and third prize of ₹25 lakh and ₹10 lakh respectively. With five more prize tiers and consolation prizes of ₹1 lakh each, this bumper makes the year for hundreds of ticket holders.

  • Monsoon Bumper

Another season-themed lottery, the Monsoon Bumper is drawn every year in the wet months of July. Despite offering the smallest prize among the bumper lotteries, the first prize winner gets a whopping ₹2 crore. This bumper also comes with seven other prize tiers and consolation prizes.

  • Pooja Bumper

The final bumper lottery in a year is the Pooja Bumper that’s drawn every November. It offers a modest ₹4 crore first prize followed by seven other tiers that range from ₹10 lakh to just ₹500. Similar to previous bumper lotteries, the Pooja Bumper also gives a consolation prize of ₹1 lakh.

  • Christmas New Year Bumper

What better way to celebrate the New Year and Christmas than by giving yourself a ticket to a better life. Every January, the Christmas New Year Bumper gives people a reason to start the new year happy with a prize of ₹6 crore. Other lucky winners can expect prizes in secondary tiers of ₹10 lakh, ₹5 lakh, ₹1 lakh, ₹5000, ₹2000, ₹1000, and ₹500.

  • Vishnu Bumper

The spell between the Summer and Monsoon Bumper is punctuated by the Vishnu Bumper which offers a reward of ₹5 crore. Other lucky souls can win the second prize of ₹10 lakh, the third prize of ₹5 lakh, the fourth prize of ₹1 lakh, or any of the smaller prize tiers offering ₹5000, ₹2000, ₹1000, and ₹500.

  • Thiruvonam Bumper

The Thiruvonam Bumper lottery held every September is the biggest of the all the bumper lotteries in Kerala. In fact, it’s first prize of ₹12 crore is two, three, or even six times bigger than some of the others. Thiruvonam’s ₹50 lakh second prize easily challenges the first prize offered by many weekly lotteries. Other prize tiers include the ₹10 lakh-third prize, the ₹5 lakh-fourth prize, the ₹1 lakh-fifth prize, the ₹5000-sixth prize, the ₹3000-seventh prize, ₹2000-eighth prize, and the ₹1000-ninth prize.

Kerala Lottery Results

The most exciting part of participating in the Kerala lottery is checking the lottery results. The Kerala lottery draw is conducted every day at 3:00 PM every day at the Sree Chithira Home Auditorium, Pazhavangadi, East Fort, Thiruvananthapuram. The results are published on the Kerala lottery website on the same day. Ticket holders can also grab a copy of the Kerala Government Gazette for the draw results.

The published results have several numbers printed on them under headings such as the 1st Prize, 2nd Prize, and so on. You need to compare those numbers with your ticket number. You should compare each alphabet and digit in the number and thoroughly check all the numbers drawn. Finally, players who win are required to verify their winning number with the results published in the Gazette and surrender the lottery ticket within 30 days of the draw date.

With so many types of small and big lotteries and such an easy claim process, the Kerala lottery truly is the best lottery in India.
